Stephenie Hendricks, Principal Professional Experience
in Radio, TV, Print, and online
In 2018, I came up to Canada to study Peace & Justice Studies in British Columbia. Since then, I completed a PhD program at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Interdisciplinary Sustainability Theme - better late then never!
I developed a post secondary podcast centred curriculum for non-science and non-health track students on environmental health and environmental justice, found here: www.eh-ej.org.
Prior to coming up to Canada, I taught Journalism and Social Justice Communications at Dominican University of California. At the University of British Columbia, Okanagan, I was honoured to be on several teaching teams. I love working with post secondary students to help create a space for them to navigate their emerging paths.
When I have bandwidth, I still consult for select NGOs, small businesses, academics, scientists, and health advocates to develop communication strategies to help raise awareness and create critical mass for change, especially for policies and markets. Here are some things I do :
• assist journalists with tracking down important elements for their stories, including providing expert voices on complex issues
• strategize with planning communications in campaign inceptions, including targeting audiences, clarifying messages, and identifying messengers to work toward critical mass for change • support market and policy campaigns, working with underserved groups needing communications support and mentoring those with communications inclinations • produce news teleconferences, also in person press events • write op-eds, talking points, fact sheets, letters to the editor, blogs, focus sheets for conference calls & webinars, and more • help build coalition through collaborative communications strategy with diverse groups • work with reporters to get stories generated in media, to position and prep my team as resources for on-going media pieces Before this, I was a Communications Director for two NGOs. During my previous careers, I produced live radio and television shows, also produced magazine format video and documentaries, and have worked as a river guide, in retail and as a maid. \I am also a jazz singer and have performed with my band, the Isoji Wizards for Bread and Roses, taking music where people are confined suc as convalescent homes. I'm always interested in supporting a team that is a good fit for my skills, experience, and personality. References available on request.
